On the morning of September 11th, a magnitude 7.6 earthquake struck the South Pacific island nation of Papua New Guinea (PNG). The epicenter of the earthquake was less than 100 kilometers from the Ramu Ni-Co project site in PNG. Strong tremors could be felt at the site, which affected production. Emergency safety protocols were immediately activated, with the key equipment autoclave automatically switched to temperature and pressure retention mode. A special task force was set up at the company as soon as the news reached Beijing. Highly concerned about the earthquake's impact on the project, company president Liu Cheng assigned team specialists to follow up on-site situation and team experts to carry out post-quake diagnosis and analysis.

In response to the impact of the earthquake on the foundation structure of the first autoclave line, structural experts worked overnight to collate information sent from the site, study original design plans, and propose structural foundation solutions. The solutions were then discussed with the process, mechanical and other related disciplinary professionals to ensure that they were scientific, reasonable, clear and operable. Experts in equipment, piping, EC&I and other related disciplines also actively gave confirmation and feedback taking into account on-site conditions, providing the necessary technical support for the project to resume production as soon as possible. Members of the task force worked through Mid-Autumn holiday in response to the urgent situation. On September 14th, good news came from the project site: the second and third series of production systems started low-load production after passing safety checks.

Since its commissioning in December 2012, the Ramu project has experienced dozens of earthquakes of magnitude 3 or above and up to magnitude 7.5 within 100km of the project site, and all project plant facilities have remained generally stable, structurally reliable and smoothly operating. In face of the most powerful earthquake in recent years, ENFI took practical actions to help the project resume production. The ENFI Solution has once again proven its mark of excellence, and ENFI engineering, technology and quality have once again withstood the major challenge of a natural disaster.
